HEARTS FOR STREET DOGS
Supporting Reno’s unhoused pets and the people who love them
Born from a group of passionate women determined to help homeless street dogs in our community, Hearts for Street Dogs was founded to address a critical and often overlooked need: supporting pets living on the streets alongside their owners.
Since our founding, we have seen firsthand how community-driven outreach can improve the lives of both people and their animals throughout Reno and beyond.
Why This Matters
Homelessness among pet owners presents unique challenges due to limited access to shelters, veterinary care, food, and basic supplies. While people experience the hardships of homelessness, their pets face the same exposure and risks.
For many unhoused individuals, pets are vital emotional support and constant companions. They provide comfort, protection, and stability during extremely difficult times. Without access to resources, families may feel pressure to surrender their pets to already overcrowded shelters.
Hearts for Street Dogs exists to help keep people and their pets together by providing support where it is needed most.
